Principal's Corner

October 22, 2019 Dear Parents/Guardians:


We are grateful for your interest and dedication to our CRHS students and staff. Last year’s goals were: attendance, grades, graduation rate, AVID (with reading and writing strategies), and community involvement. We will continue these goals and add Social-Emotional learning with our students and staff to support our climate/culture in the school. 


AVID:  AVID is a program that helps prepare students for post-secondary education (military, college/university, career). This year we are focused on two areas: WICOR strategies and CRP (Critical Reading Process). WICOR stands for: writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading.  CRP focuses on pre-reading strategies (Activate), interaction with the text while reading (Engage), and a product after reading (Extend). 


Literacy:  We will continue to read with purpose across the content as our data shows a 12.8% increase in passing rate for the ELA SBA from 2018 to 2019 because of the focus on literacy. Early Release Wednesdays are used for professional development with all staff on the Critical Reading Process across all contents. 


Community Involvement:  We have continued weekly and monthly visits to Ryderwood and Castle Rock Senior Centers to give service. We participated in Day of Caring with 30 students cleaning up Lion’s Park. We believe in taking pride in our community.  Every grade has community service hours that they need to accomplish for their graduation requirements.  We have ample opportunities throughout the year for students to serve.  


Castle Rock is a wonderful place and our students are doing some wonderful things.  We would love to have more parent volunteers in our school so if you would like to be part of Castle Rock High School, please go to our district webpage and fill out the parent volunteer packet.
